Payment cards of VTB Bank (Kazakhstan) – new level of safety

VTB Bank (Kazakhstan) JSC SO informs that since January 11, 2013, the payment cards of VTB Bank have been transferred to EMV standard which has high level of protection in the payment cards industry.

EMV (Europay, MasterCard and VISA) is an international standard for bank cards transactions with a chip. This standard has been developed by joint efforts of Europay, MasterCard and Visa companies in order to increase the level of the financial transactions safety.

The chip has higher level of protection in comparison with the magnetic strip. A secret key of the chip identifying the card in the bank transactions is stored in protected memory. It is recorded into the chip memory at the stage of production and it is impossible to remove it by means of external devices without breaking integrity of the chip itself. The chip’s pin-code is checked by the chip itself unlike the pin-code of the magnetic strip which is checked by the bank’s computer. This circumstance complicates interception of the pin-code. Moreover, as distinct from the magnetic strip the chip is not subject to influence of the magnetic fields.

Rosa Imangaliyeva, Head for the Bank Cards Department of VTB Bank (Kazakhstan) JSC SO, assured,

“VTB Bank transfers to qualitatively new level of servicing its customers – holders of VTB Bank (Kazakhstan) JSC SO’s cards. One of the basic advantages of our Bank is rendering the financial services of European level. New chip cards will increase the level of our customers’ financial transactions safety level.”
